AU History:
-- spoke with Anise-mun for her parents to be the one to help raise Arietta
-- also spoke with Lea-mun and Kairi-mun for Arietta to come from the same destroyed island they were born on
Arietta was born on a faraway coast island to two Enlightened parents. Due to the dangerous nature of the island, her parents rarely left her alone. They often brought her to the beach while gathering shells to bring back to town as they did not want to risk leaving her behind. It was not rare for people to go missing or die while out or even in town. When she turned four, her parents brought her to the beach and allowed her to rest on some driftwood by the water while they forged. She ended up getting caught up in a large wave that knocked her off the island and into the ocean. Arietta drifted off far into the water before they noticed and they were not able to reach her due to the rough nature of the water. She managed to survive the ocean trip which brought her to the coast of the continent that the Union rests upon. She was lucky enough to be picked up by a passing feral Luxray. Despite turning away from being part of the domesticated bunch at the Union, this Luxray brought her up as one of her own.
Despite not being an Enlightened Kindred Soul, Arietta quickly began to connect to her new 'family'. As she was swept away at such a young age, she could remember hardly any human language. She did, however, keep the memory of her family and the island close in her mind. She was also able to communicate to her family as she was eventually taught to understand the electric waves that they sent to each other.
When she was ten, she attempted to return to the island that she was born with the help of 'family'. This was due to her desire to meet up with her real parents again. However, it was soon discovered through the help of her family and other pokemon that the island was destroyed. She gave up on trying to connect with humans again and closed herself completely off from them. This continued until she was fourteen.
It was then that a member of a church discovered her and how she was raised and brought her back to the Union. The church there decided to try and attempt to tame her after discovering that she was Enlightened. A young couple decided to take her under their wing in order to help with this. Lessons began each day about manners, interaction, basic language, and reading and writing. While Arietta was discouraged by these lessons at first, she slowly began to learn and behave less like a feral pokemon.
A year after Arietta coming from the wilderness, the couple deemed her fit for society. This is when she began to take classes at the university. This, however, did not help her make human friends as the couple that took her in had hoped. Rather she preferred to stay away from the others and only interaction with her Spinx. The only true reason that she goes to school is to make the couple happy. Though she'll often skip days where she notices that the couple's true daughter is not going to school; preferring to go Agricultural Tower or Pokemon Habitat and enjoy herself there.
Now sixteen, Arietta is basically in the same position that she was when she first began school. Going a few days a week in order to keep her grades at a bare passing level, but preferring to go other places. She's shown interest in becoming a caretaker, but hasn't truly acted upon it. Nor has she brought it up with her 'family'. However, for the past month, the couple raising her allowed to her to go back to her feral family after noticing her depression and her Shinx's agitation from not seeing them in two years.
Canon Personality: Being raised by monsters, Arietta is as you would expect one to be - sheltered and timid. Being raised by ligers, caused her to know nothing of the world outside of her family. Therefore all religions and beliefs (such as the score) meant nothing to her, nor did she depend on them for anything. Still, though she was raised from monsters since a young birth she did know that she was a human. That her human family died by a tidal wave and that the Liger Queen began to raise her as her own. It's most likely due to being raised by man-eating monsters that Arietta, herself, doesn't have a problem with killing others. That is, after all, how she was raised. Honestly, it's more likely to see Arietta killing a human/person than a monster as she has a stronger connection with the latter.
Despite being sixteen, Arietta can come off as child-like. Being of small stature she can easily be mistaken for one as well (she is only 4'10). Her speaking language is a bit on the more childish as instead of using cuss words this is replaced with words such as 'jerk' and 'bully'. Most likely because Ion nor anyone else taught her those words therefore she didn't take them on. She also holds slightly child-like grudges, such as forever hating Anise for taking Ion from her. This can be one of Arietta's main weaknesses, that she holds deep grudges when someone wrongs her. One of the worst things that you can do to her is take something precious to her, as she hates being alone. Though she can seem like one who would rather be alone, she isn't. One of the reasons she was so attached to Ion is that he saved her from being alone along with Van. After her sister had died, they saved her from that loneliness. This is most likely another reason as to why she always has a monster with her.
Being more comfortable with monsters than humans, Arietta can easily come off as shy to others. She isn't the most talkative person, nor does she get all human aspects. However, she isn't afraid to blurt out her thoughts or ideas. Rather than 'shy', she's more of a timid person. When it comes to people, she only knows what had been taught to her. This can also mean that she's easy to manipulate and use. Unless, of course, your plan means hurting something at she loves. If you're someone who isn't on Arietta's bad side, she can actually be a nice person. Arietta is someone who has 'lost everyone they love' (Her 'mom and Ion) along with being someone that 'everyone is mean too' therefore coming off as a gloomy person all around. She does not believe herself too be gloomy nonetheless.
Despite knowing the harshness of life and reality, Arietta still is unable to get over it when things happen to her. She isn't someone whom can easily get over things and move on with her life; instead clinging to what she has left. If she does not have anything left, than she might as well die. This was the reason that Ion's death was kept from her, as everyone assumed that she would kill herself if she knew the truth. This can also be taken that she holds onto the people precious to her in a positive way. She won't use or ditch her friends or do something to wrong them. She'd rather sacrifice herself than have something happen to one of her friends. This can be one of the reasons that she became Ion's guardian, because no matter what she wouldn't let anything happen to him. If she really cares about you, you'll know. Arietta isn't someone who hides her emotions, if something is wrong more than likely she'll tell. She isn't one who will keep her mouth shut and let someone do something that she doesn't agree with. Basically, she stick up for herself and possibly even others if the situation asks for it.
Arietta is one who is very good with following orders. (Unless they do harm to something that she loves) This is most likely why Van was able to make good use of her. She also uses her 'sisters' and 'brothers' to help her with things. Meaning that she is more than likely dependent on them or others. As when not fighting with them she was with Largo or Legretta. It's a rare sight to find Arietta completely by herself as she's a co-dependent person. Arietta is one that you'd also expect to have more wilderness survival skills than others, as she was, once again, raised by ligers. Also, as Arietta never laughed during the game nor in the short gardenia that she also appeared in, it's speculated that she's a hard person to make to laugh.
In general conversation, Arietta is one whom would most likely be distrusting of someone that she has yet to know. If not distrusting, than at least wiry. It isn't until she actually forms a opinion of you that she'll warm up to you or do the opposite. It isn't exactly easy to get on Arietta's warm side (the only person who seemed to fully achieve this was Ion and Van) as she's quite the shielded person. Though she'll let you in on facts such as her family, it's much harder to get to the point where you learn about all her insecurities. Once you get pasted Arietta's barrier, she might act as one would call 'cute.' She can act loveable and cares much for people who mean something to do. Having limited knowledge, doesn't get all of the terms that one might speak causing her to get confused.
AU Deviation: The biggest difference between the two will be that Arietta was never given the job of Fon Master Guardian here. Therefore she'd never have been 'fired' and gone spiraling down in depression, anger, and desperation to get him back. She'll be a lot closer to canon!Arietta before she was taken away from Ion. She won't be willing to harm innocent people like Arietta in the game is. She also won't terribly attached to Ion, so she'll be more willing to talk to more people and more independent.
There is also no Van, meaning that she won't be indebt to him. The two most important people in her life as lessened meaning that she'll be more open to change and be able to make more of her own decisions. She also has more opportunity in Brave New World to meet and talk with people. In canon, she was given jobs to do and that is what she did, meanwhile here she is able to go to school and spend time thinking on what she wants. This will eventually lead her to be less timid and more social for all the right reasons - unlike in canon. She also has less reason to hate some people via her mom isn't murdered.
Also not having the full ability to speak to monsters, her human language will be slightly more developed. She will have used what she learned before getting washed off the island to the best of her ability with her feral family. However, being able to connect via emotions will also make her less inclined to talk. She'll be more action-orientated than word-orientated. She'd rather touch someone curiously to show that she's curious rather than saying it aloud.
Canon Abilities: a list of artes. Arietta is a spell caster, meaning that is where almost all her strength comes from. She is able to speak to monsters. She often uses their help to fight in battle.
Enlightened Abilities: Arietta will have the typing Fairy/Dark after the dark and light spells that she has in canon. She will also have the Enlightened ability of Child of the Verdant Forest.
First Form
mirror: Arietta will occasionally, if both her and her pokemon's emotions are unified, will emit sparks of their type. This is only if she and the other are extremely close. For example, if both she and her Shinx are both mad than through contact - she may end up shocking the person ( like static electricity when you touch someone. ) This ability will not get stronger with evolution, she will be able to control it more not to accidentally shock others. The only pokemon that she will be able to fully do this will for quite awhile will be her Shinx; in which she will use it to communicate via electric sparks.
heal: Arietta can use her own health and lifeforce to heal scrapes and minor wounds. This takes a lot of power and will that may end with her passing out.
barrier: Arietta can create a barrier that around one pokemon at a time that powers up both their physical attack and defense. This only lasts about 30 seconds.
light door: Arietta can attack by summoning a weak light beam down on the enemy that ends with a dark blast upon them.
Second Form
soothing light: Arietta's ability to heal gets stronger allowing her to heal larger and deeper wounds. Now she can heal minor-major scrapes and slight sprains. It also takes slightly less win and tires her out less.
sharp protection: Arietta can create a barrier that raises one pokemon's special defense and attack. This lasts for about 30 seconds.
night howling: Arietta can attack by creating a blast of darkness around the enemy which ends with what sounds almost like the howl of a lone houndour.
Third Form
fairy circle: Arietta's ability to heal gets stronger allowing her to heal broken wounds and major scrapes. This is still using her own lifeforce and does tire her out after so much healing. She is able to handle healing for longer periods however.
light emitter: Arietta can create a single barrier around one pokemon that allows her to protect them and heal them from status effects. It will also protect them from taking damage while it is up. This lasts for about 15 seconds.
light bang: Arietta can attack up to three enemies on the field as darkness covers the area and a beam of light aims towards each other them. It can weaken defense and attack.
Starter Pokémon: A quite feral, fuzzy Shinx
Notes/Special Considerations: Due to the fact that she was raised by Luxrays and the like, she can understand the electrical waves and minor growls they use to communicate. However, this is only for this pokemon family. This was cleared by mods.
SAMPLES
First-Person: ( Arietta wasn't fond of dealing with technology as it easier confused her but her guardians had insisted that she try it at least once. A confused face appears on the monitor along side an extremely scurry Shinx. )
I don't know what it's doing either! You're supposed to be able to talk to other people with it. ( The Shinx growls before shocking Arietta with it's claws. They exchange looks. )
It's on? What do I do now!? I don't really want to talk to other people! ( She glances worriedly at the screen as the Shinx disappears from view. )
Ah.., hi. Sorry for this, I was told to test this.. ( what was it? ) warpband. You can go back to what you were doing. ( She looks off-screen. ) How do I turn it off?
... What do you mean you don't know!? (The feed cuts off as the Shinx jumps upon the screen. )
Third-Person: Arietta's grasp tightened around her sister, a Shinx, as she waited in a small bedroom. She hadn't been feeling well lately due to being away from her family for so long. She hadn't seen the Luxray that she called mom in two years and it starting to affect her health. Shinx squirmed under her grasp as it protested from being held so tightly.
She gave the Shinx an apologetic look as she loosened her death trip on the poor pokemon. Arietta was nervous, she couldn't help it. Her sister could feel how tense her arms were as they slowly began to squeeze her again. She lowered her eyes to the floor. She still felt uncomfortable in this setting at times. She may have been staying at the Union for the past two years, but most of her still longed to go back to her feral family. Even if for only a short time. A old lady walked into the room and beckoned Arietta to follow. Shinx nudged her way out of Arietta's arms and jumped onto the floor; walking ahead of her as they followed the old lady. Arietta gripped the skirt that she was wearing to prevent her hands from shaking. Depending on what her guardians say, she may or may not be able to go see her family. She could do it anyways but she was indebted to them for taking care of her.
As she entered the room, a male pulled out a chair for her to sit. She nodded at him, both a thanks and a greeting. He was the man that helped spend time taking care of her. Finally her gaze rested on the man that brought her here in the first place. He cleared his voice.
"What would you say the role of Pokemon is in your life?"
Arietta blinked, she didn't expect to get questioned. She glanced down at the floor as she voiced her answer. "Pokemon are my friends. They saved me when I washed up on shore. They kept me from feeling alone. I love them."
"When encountering a rare and powerful Pokémon, what is most important? Researching it, bonding with it, or defeating it? Why?"
This time she was expecting a question. She tilted her head pushing her voice to sound more confident this time. "Bonding with it. If it wants too. Why would you fight it if it hasn't done anything to you! You let it do what it wants to do."
"No Enlightened chooses their abilities - and not all are Enlightened. What type abilities would you most desire to manifest and why?"
Her eyebrows furrowed. She still didn't see the point of being Enlightened; or understand why it was special. It was dumb to her, she didn't care that she was one herself. "I don't know. Something to protect my sister and my friends? I want to be able to support them."
"In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable."
Completely unforgivable. That was an easy question for her. "Hurting my friends! No one is allowed to do that. Or taking my friends away from me. It's mean, I couldn't forgive that. Misusing power or treating others wrong too."
"What do you feel your role in Union is and what do you think the most important occupation is?"
This was a harder question. She had no idea what her 'role' was, and she cared little for the occupations they had to offer. "My role... I'm a student. At the university. Is that what you mean? And I like the caretakers here. They help Pokemon.
The man nodded before closing the folder in front of her. "Go ahead and see your family for a few weeks. I want you back soon though." Arietta nodded happily, allowing a rare, small smile to cross her face.
"Thank you." With that she ran out of the room. She had no time to waste. Her sister ran besides her letting out a growl of cheer.
